Texas Holdem Flop Strategies

There are a lot of things that you will have to work on when you play Texas Holdem, but one of the most vital and essential is the flop. For a lot of times, the cards that appear can either make your hand or cause you to fold. If you are new to the game, here are some the things you should include in your strategies.

The first is that in most Poker games, particularly in Limit Holdem, if you can take the pot down before the flop, do it. If you have a top pair, then this is the Limit Holdem strategy to adopt, especially if you are on the button. While most will readily raise pre flop with AAs or face pairs, they usually think twice when the pairs are lower.

However, the fact is that a lot of aggressive players play pairs, from TTs to 88s, because anytime you have it, there is a chance that you will get a set on the flop. A set is a very powerful hand in Texas Holdem, and be it Limit Holdem or No Limit, it can win you the pot.

As an example, if you are holding a pair of kings and the flop comes out A-K-8, then your Limit Holdem strategy will definitely work well and present you with numerous possibilities.

The reason is that a board with an Ace will cause players to think that, provided they are holding an Ace too, will give them top pair. This will inevitably lead to calls and raise. What they do not know is that your KKK has them beat.

If the situation were that you were holding a Q9 and the flop comes to a Q-Q-K then you will have a trip. The Texas Holdem strategy you would employ would have to be quite different.

While you may be tempted to raise with your QQQ, the question that you will have to ask yourself is, what if the other player has a pair of kings? In this case, it would be best if you are acting late, as it will allow you to watch how they act. If one of the other Limitt Holdem players makes a raise, then it is likely that they are holding a king pair.

Another thing that is difficult about having trips on the board, especially with face cards, is that they can easily scare off tight players and cause them to fold. The set is much better, and in the case of 88s and 99s, they are easier to conceal, particularly in Limit Holdem.

There are of course, other ways to play the flop, and the instances we looked at concerning the sets and trips can also be applied to top and bottom pairs. The important thing to remember is that when you are playing Texas Holdem, you will have to keep an eye on the flop always, and the players. Doing so will keep you on top.
